Belize is along the Caribbean coast of Central America. The first British settlement came in 1638, and the United Kingdom relinquished its last colony on the mainland of the Americas in 1981. Did you know that English is the official language, but Spanish is widely spoken. Peace and plentiful land attract refugees from troubled neighboring countries. There are tourists from around the world that flock to see Maya ruins like Altun Ha; wildlife such as jaguars, howler monkeys, and toucans; and the Western Hemisphere's longest coral reef.
Best known for its beautiful Caribbean coastline, Belize also provides a perfect setting to snorkel, and dive. Marine life is abundant here and a trip to Goff's Caye will with out a doubt provide you the opportunity to view some playful manatee in their own habitat.
The official currency of Belize is the Belizean dollar (BZD). Many stores, hotels, and restaurants also accept major credit cards, which usually offer you a good exchange rate
